Flowers In Mantua village: on the bridge and in the village

Downtown Mantua Revitalization actively supports the efforts of Mantua Village to beautify Mantua during the summer and through the Holiday season. DMRC contributes to the cost of the hanging baskets that brighten the Village during the summer months.

When DMRC Board member Mary Cabot visited Europe, she fell in love with the European custom of placing cascading flower baskets on bridges over their rivers. Her dream to do the same with the bridge over the Cuyahoga in Mantua Village became reality in 2015, following construction of a new bridge on State Route 44. Mary collected donations to purchase baskets and flowers, orchestrated DMRC’s management of the project, and engaged volunteers to maintain this beautify addition to downtown. In November, DMRC members replace the flowers with Holiday greens.

The Village of Mantua assumed the care of the flower baskets during the week, with a small core of volunteers looking out for them during weekends.

Headwaters Trail Collaboration

DMRC initiated and continues to host quarterly meetings with surrounding community leaders, including representatives from Aurora, Mantua Township, Hiram, Garrettsville, Mantua Rotary, Mantua-Shalersville Area Chamber of Commerce, Garrettsville Rotary, Portage Parks District, and Portage County Regional Planning.

Potato Festival Pierogi Booth

In 2018, DMRC and the Rotary Club of Mantua collaborated on hosting the Pierogi Booth at The Mantua Potato Festival. Steve Zabor, Sue Steinberg and Toomas Tubalkain were the key volunteers that managed procurement, set-up, and sales for the weekend. The event was washed out by the remnants of a hurricane passing through, but we managed to break-even. DMRC and Rotary will work together again, hosting the pierogi and salt potato booth. Proceeds go toward community improvement projects.
